The Great British Story: A People's History The Great British Story at Mount Stewart, County Down

The Great British Story event came to the shores of Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland on Saturday 26th May, the hottest day of the year so far! The National Trust's Mount Stewart House and Gardens was the stunning backdrop for local history coming to life. Living History Celts, Normans and Planters roamed the grounds in the hot sun, while the Viking longboat and village played host to storytelling, weapon demos and battle charges. Special guest and presenter of The Great British Story: Armagh, Dermot Murnaghan talked to the crowds about his experience of discovering the hidden history of the town where he grew up. Throughout the day 'A Question of History' kept everyone guessing the origin of the panels' mystery objects from the past. 12 partner organisations dotted around the exhibition marquee excited the 2,000 plus audience with local history themes from place names to family history. A great day and thanks to everyone who took part!
